ScholarCentric Announces Release of Assessment Validation Study
Study establishes normative group for resiliency-based skills curriculum

Denver, CO – March 03, 2009 – ScholarCentric, a leading provider of K-12 educational materials specializing in increasing student achievement and retention, is pleased to announce the release of a technical validation study for the assessment that accompanies their Success Highways program. For the study, ScholarCentric tested 4,922 students nationwide to establish a normative group on resiliency traits which allows ScholarCentric to provide educational institutions with key understandings of the social emotional needs of their students.

“The completion of this technical validation study demonstrates our continued commitment to research,” said Steve Weigler, president of ScholarCentric. By re-validating our assessment with such a large sample, we can provide an accurate, disaggregated assessment of the barriers that each student faces.

Success Highways is a combination of assessment, curriculum and professional development. It is built on 15 years of research that has established a clear link between the strength of student resiliency skills (personal motivation, personal confidence, connections to family, etc.) and a student’s ability to adapt to stressful situations and succeed in and out of the classroom. Research has shown that there are six main areas that are responsible for academic success. The Success Highways assessment asks students to rate themselves on each area: Importance of Education, Connections, Well-being, Motivation, Confidence and Stress.”

Students will be able to compare themselves to a national normative group and begin to think critically about how they can improve the skills they need to meet their personal and academic goals with greater accuracy,” said Dr. V. Scott Solberg, chief academic officer for ScholarCentric. “We will also be able to more accurately determine the true scope of our impact with students.”

The completion of the technical validation study further strengthens the Success Highways program. The program continues to provide schools with an understanding of the socio-emotional attitudes of their students and how students can improve their lives and academic skills.
