Greater Retention, Increased Attendance, Fewer Dropouts
Denver, CO February 19, 2009 ScholarCentric, a leading provider of K-12 educational materials specializing in increasing student achievement and retention, is pleased to announce the adoption of its Success Highways program as part of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Smaller Learning Communities project. Casimir Pulaski High School and Lynde and Harry Bradley Technology and Trade School will be joining other MPS schools that have already implemented Success Highways and participated in the earliest pilot of the program, and experienced positive results. Success Highways is currently servicing over 18,000 students across the country, and research indicates that participation in the program results in fewer student absences, improved grades, and higher graduation rates.
Milwaukee Public Schools recently underwent a high school redesign effort in order to provide diverse options for high school students including traditional comprehensive high schools, large high schools organized into small learning communities, and small high schools, as part of its Action Plan to Improve Milwaukee Public Schools 2007-2012. At Bradley Tech and Pulaski High Schools, the curriculum centers on strengthening relationships among staff, students and families, and assisting students in attaining world class academic and career proficiencies. Bradley Tech offers four Small Learning Communities (SLC) based on career interests: Construction, Design, Engineering, and Communications. The SLC options at Pulaski are Automotive, Law, Health, Business/Technology and Art.
Scholarcentric’s Success Highways program will be part of the 2009 Advocacy period program at both Bradley Tech and Pulaski High School. Mary Staten, Milwaukee Public School Smaller Learning Communities District Administrator, feels that this addition will have a positive impact on students and their teachers. “Success Highways works with the whole child, boosting student engagement and achievement, and keeping our teachers excited about learning,” she states. “When students have a positive experience in the classroom, teachers share in that feeling of accomplishment.”
