DENVER – September 25, 2007 – ScholarCentric is pleased to announce the availability of Mi Camino al Éxito (Success Highways). Mi Camino al Éxito is designed to provide schools serving Spanish-speaking students with a program that empowers them to connect their future with the importance of academic studies. Integrated into current curriculum, or used as an after-school program, Mi Camino al Éxito allows young people to learn and apply real-world skills, participate in hands-on learning projects, and work building organizational and study skills, in their own language.

“We’re very proud to be making the Success Highways program available in Spanish,” states Steve Weigler, ScholarCentric’s CEO. “According to research done by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Latino teens are the most likely to drop out of school. In 2005, Latino teenagers were more than twice as likely as non-Latino whites to drop out. While 6 percent of non-Latino whites between 16 and 19 dropped out, 14 percent of Latinos in the same age group left school.” Education programs and school districts that have a large percentage of Spanish speakers can implement Mi Camino al Éxito and start to experience rising retention rates, improvement in school attendance and grades, with more classes passed.

“Latino teens, many with English as a second language, are often left to struggle with overcoming language difficulties along with other pressures, social and academic, at school,” states Dominic DiFelice, Superintendent, The New America School (CO). “Our goal is give all students an opportunity to make the connection between staying in school, and success as adults in the real world. By implementing Mi Camino al Éxito, our curriculum can provide special outreach to Latino students, giving them the resiliency skills necessary to complete high school, improving not only their lives but that of the community in which they live.”

Mi Camino al Éxito is aligned with state K-12 content standards in all 50 states. The pre- and post-assessment tools, ¡Alístate! (Revving Up) and ¡Adelante! (Moving On) provide students and teachers with benchmarks for improvement with bar graphs to increase visual impact. The curriculum includes fifteen 45-minute lessons designed to develop resiliency skills necessary for young people to make a successful transition into work, college, and adult life.
