Assessment & Reporting
Success Highways uses a formative and summative Resiliency Assessment to measure students’ aptitude and progress in the Six Key Academic Resiliency Skills which are:
- Importance of Education
- Academic Confidence
- Connections to Educators and Positive Role Models
- Ability to Handle Academic Anxiety
- Sense of Well-Being
- Intrinsic Motivation
The Success Highways resiliency assessments were developed throughout 15 years of major university studies with large, heterogeneous and geographically diverse samples. Our assessments have also been revalidated as an effective measure of resiliency. View a sample of a Success Highways Student Assessment
Data from each assessment is provided to students and educators to offer valuable information and insight. Reports include:

Curriculum
The Success Highways curriculum is available in two phases.
Success Highways (Phase 1/Year 1)
The Success Highways resiliency curriculum includes 15, 45-minute lessons that build the essential resiliency skills research has shown are necessary to increase academic outcomes.
Lesson Framework
A research-developed pedagogy guides how Success Highways is taught.
Each resiliency skill is covered in a unit (usually 2-4, 45-minute lessons per unit).

Action Planning |
During each unit, students will have the ability to:
- Study the objective definition of the resiliency skill
- Create their own subjective definition of the resiliency skill
- Listen to the teacher’s own personal story about his/her experience with the resiliency skill and how it related to his/her educational goals
- Participate in standards-based classroom activities involving the skill (case study analysis, group discussions, research)
- View and reflect on the students' personal resiliency data as compared to a validated sample
- Create a personal action plan to overcome any resiliency deficiencies and galvanize resiliency strengths
At the culmination of the program, Lesson 15, students create a personal action plan based on the student objective data and personal desire for academic growth.
Teacher Materials

Teacher’s Guide
The comprehensive Teacher’s Guide contains the 15, 45-minute lesson plans and provides teachers with all the tools they need to effectively foster academic resiliency and growth. Each unit includes an introduction, a materials task list to prepare the instructor and the classroom, procedures for conducting the lessons, enrichment/extension activities, and instructor follow-up and evaluation.

Classroom Posters
These modern, eye-catching classroom resiliency posters provide a visual cue for Success Highways students. Many Success Highways classrooms are decorated with resiliency posters to remind students of the relationship between resiliency and academic success.
Billboard (Reusable, Erasable White Boards)
Success Highways classroom activities include communication and sharing through a variety of experiences. In some lessons, students write a response on a white board and hold up the board so the teacher can easily view the class responses without singling out a particular student.
Student Materials
Each student receives a My Success folder which includes:
My Success Roadmap
Each 32-page journal contains specific activities for each lesson presented in Success Highways. The highly engaging exercises allow students to identify personal challenges, establish a plan for addressing those challenges, and chart a course toward academic success.

Revving Up Report
Each student receives individualized resiliency results from the Revving Up assessment so that they may analyze and reflect on personal resiliency skills and challenges. This is a key aspect to the Success Highways pedagogy.
Success Highways: Down the Road (In Pilot 2010 school year)
Success Highways: Down the Road was developed as a follow-up curriculum to Success Highways in order to foster continued resiliency development. The curriculum provides 12 interactive experiences covering the six resiliency skills. Down the Road can be used for students who have had Success Highways and will also benefit students in the class who did not participate in Success Highways. Like Success Highways, each Down the Road participant will receive a My Roadmap to the Future memorializing the resiliency building progress.

Professional Development
The Success Highway’s professional development solutions are customized to meet the needs of each unique educational partner. Both webinar and on-site training are available to best accommodate the varying needs of each school or district.
A typical Success Highways implementation begins with the Success Highways Initial Implementation Training, and may be followed by additional sessions on a variety of topics.
Success Highways Initial Implementation Training
This half-day session led by a trained facilitator will provide school staff with a thorough introduction of the Success Highways resiliency assessment and curriculum. It is designed to give participants an in-depth examination of the six resiliency skills and teaching methods that empower students to become more intrinsically motivated. This model provides the most effective implementation.
Participants will:
Identify the six resiliency skills used in the program, as well as the research behind each skill
Explore how improved resiliency impacts student academic performance
Become familiar with the content and administration of the Revving Up pre-assessment and student data reports
Examine the Success Highways teacher and student materials through exploration activities and practice delivering lessons and strategies
Explore how to promote and enhance student resiliency throughout the school's culture
Success Highways Follow Up Workshops
These workshops are offered to provide ongoing support to teachers throughout the Success Highways implementation. Each workshop is customized to provide the information best suited to the school and district’s needs. Topics include:
