Innovative Programs

What are Innovative Programs Grants?
The Innovative Programs formula grants allow recipients to use funds to benefit any and all student populations, in any and all schools. The purposes of the program are to:

Support local education reform efforts that are consistent with statewide education reform efforts

Provide funding to enable States and LEAs to implement promising educational reform programs and school improvement initiatives based on scientifically based research

Provide a continuing source of innovation and educational improvement, including support for library services and instructional and media materials, and meet the educational needs of all students, including at risk students; and develop education programs to improve school, student, and teacher performance

How is Innovative Program funding distributed?
Funds are allocated by formula, based on states’ relative share of the school-age population. States must award sub grants of at least 85% of their allocation to districts based on the relative enrollments in public and private schools.

How can Innovative Program funding be used?

Funding may be used for a wide variety of purposes. State education agencies may use their 15% share of program funds for:

Supporting school choice options

School renovations

Technology

Implementing other state reforms

Districts and schools can use their allocations to:

Implement promising education reform programs

Help meet the special education needs of at-risk and high-need students

Support programs to improve school, student, and teacher performance

What ScolarCentric instructional materials can be part of an Innovative Program grant?
Success Highways is eligible for funding through the Innovative Program funds. It meets requirements for youth development, innovation and educational improvement, and the needs of at-risk students.
